I experienced one of these when I decided to start listening to The Rhumb Line, Ra Ra Riot's latest. The Syracuse natives have put together a blueprint of how to create urgency, not hurry, with the opening track, "Ghost Under Rocks." This trend continues as we continue into the Beatle-esque "Winter 05." It's truly a marveling sound to hear how they evoke emotion, even when using major chords. If you don't know anything about the band, I will tell you this about this album: Last year, before the release of their album, original drummer John Pike was found dead in Buzzard's Bay. You can hear the hue of blue on every song, despite not all of them being particularly downy (that's not even a word, kids). Keeping it short and sweet, this is one of those albums that really restored my faith in musicians, and undoubtedly one of the best albums of 2008. Do yourself a favor and LEGALLY get a copy of this.
